At this present time, April 2007, Final Fantasy XIV has not been announced, hints have been almost nonexistent, and mention has been scarce. However, because the amount of Final Fantasy games Square Enix is producing is increasing (4 announced FFXIII titles, yet with FFX there were only 2, and with VII only 1), we can safely assume there is going to be a Final Fantasy XIV.
We can go further on this strong assumption by deciding the game's announcement date. The only way this can be done is by observing the announcement gaps between previous titles. As you will see, doing so turns the assumption into a weak one: FFVIII: 28 months (at least) after previous (Tokyo press conference) FFIX: 20 months after previous (Square Millennium event 2000) FFX: 0 months after previous (Square Millennium event 2000) FFXI: 0 months after previous (Square Millennium event 2000) FFXII: 12 months after previous (Business Strategy meeting in 2001) FFXIII: 64 months after previous (E3 2006 Square Conference) Ignoring the anomalies (FFX and FFXI were announced really early), here's what we have: FFVIII: 28 months (at least) after previous (Tokyo press conference) FFIX: 20 months after previous (Square Millennium event 2000) FFXII: 12 months after previous (Business Strategy meeting in 2001) FFXIII: 64 months after previous (E3 2006 Square Conference) From FFVIII to XII, it decreases by 8 months. FFXIII then made a huge jump of 64 months (that's 4 years), ruining a nice assumption that could've been made. Right now it is April, which is 11 months after the announcement of Final Fantasy XIII. This makes things difficult. But wait, is it? An advertisement for Square Enix Party 2007 had this to say: "Evolution will never stop, the series continues... and a new Final Fantasy that no one knows will enter the scene." The Square Enix Party 2007 is in May, which is a gap of 12 months. This gap is the exact same as Final Fantasy XII's gap. Which brings me to this prediction: Final Fantasy XIV may be announced in May 2007 at the Square Enix Party This could easily be wrong, but may be the best prediction possible. If I turn out to be wrong, here's some other predictions: September 2010 (same 64 month gap between FFXII and FFXIII) January 2008 (same 20 month gap between FFVIII and FFIX) September 2007 (Tokyo Game Show 2007) I really hope it isn't 2010. |
